This 1,518 sq ft duplex on Braemar Hill in North Point was the cover story of Modern Home (摩登家居), issue 504. As the magazine tells it, the couple wanted a home full of warmth, somewhere they could be close to their children while still keeping a separate work area. Working to the daily needs of a household of six, Artwill Interior Design House founder Regina Kwok reordered this three-living-area, three-bedroom home from the ground up, paying close attention to circulation so that public and private zones each found their place.
The material palette leads with timber, balanced by a measured use of marble for a calm, harmonious feel. The magazine singles out how flexibly wood is handled: the same material is detailed differently from spot to spot, from the grooved, textured shoe cabinet beside the staircase to the raw grain left exposed between the kitchen wall and the stair. The showpiece is the floor, laid in a non-parallel pattern that plays light and shade across the grain.
In the open plan, the sofa draws the line between the two halls, while a feature wall of display shelving and a fireplace quietly absorbs the storage. A television sits centrally so it can be enjoyed comfortably from either side. Upstairs, the layout was rethought as well, shedding surplus partitions for a more open, breathable feel; planting dresses the stair, and a simulated skylight draws light into the space, with a children's bathroom added for the family.
This account is drawn from the cover story in Modern Home issue 504 (words by Miranda Wong, photography by Bobby Wu). To see the herringbone floor, the fireplace feature wall and the simulated skylight of this Braemar Hill duplex in full, visit the complete project page on the Artwill website.
