North Point Mid-Levels, a Modern Home Homes Feature

The family of four had lived in this North Point Mid-Levels home for several years. When a neighbour moved out, the owners seized the chance to acquire the adjoining unit and join the two together, an ideal moment to redecorate and rework the layout. As Home Journal notes in its HOMES feature, the couple were especially drawn to materials with a sense of luxury, marble above all. Balancing the tastes of two generations with everyday practical needs, while delivering generous storage, became the focus of Regina Kwok's plan.
Marble runs widely through the 1,302 sq ft residence, across the floor, feature walls, the television backdrop, the bar and the dining counter. Regina Kwok laid two tones of marble, one darker and one lighter, over the broad living-room floor and through the open-plan dining and kitchen zone, setting a clean, bright and expansive mood. To balance the warmth and coolness of the materials, the designer brought in more timber, adding wood veneer to the television wall and laying wood flooring throughout the bedrooms. Steel was worked into slim gold lines that set off the marble's natural veining, threading definition between the low television cabinet, the bar base, the door frames and the feature walls for a clean, contemporary look.
Once the two units were opened up, the shared area was organised into a living room, a dining room, a sitting nook and a semi-open kitchen, each closely connected. To make the living room feel more open, Regina Kwok designed a half-height cabinet that works two ways, serving as the television wall and the entry shoe cabinet while also screening the two zones. The entry-facing side is backed with mirror to bounce light, and its stainless-steel frame, left hollow at top and bottom, keeps the sightlines clear. The television backdrop layers marble, leather, fabric and wood, held together by a grey palette that rewards a closer look.
From white Corian and grey marble floors to art-glass partitions, this North Point Mid-Levels home judges the cool and the warm to a nicety. To see every layer and play of light Regina Kwok arranged for this family of four, you are warmly invited to explore the full project page on the Artwill website.
