The brief here was the opposite of bright and airy. The client wanted a home with weight and atmosphere, somewhere a dinner runs late and a whisky tastes better. So we worked in a deep palette of charcoal, smoked oak, and dark veined marble, then spent our real effort on the lighting: recessed track, hidden strips under every floating element, and warm pools that let one corner glow while another stays in shadow.

The heart of the flat is the entertaining zone. A marble-topped island anchors the dining area, wrapped by a glass-fronted bar with a built-in wine fridge, glassware on lit shelves, and the coffee station beside it. It flows straight into the living room, where a full-height book-matched marble wall carries the television between fluted timber and floor-standing speakers. Everything is positioned for a room full of people, not just a quiet night in.

Nearly all the joinery was custom-made by our trusted partner factory, which is what let us hold the dark detailing to a fine tolerance: the slim black reveals, the timber slats, the seamless handle-less fronts. We carried the same discipline into the private rooms, where smoked oak softens the charcoal and the bedrooms turn quieter and more comfortable without losing the mood.

The piece the client is proudest of is the collector's study. Floor-to-ceiling glass cabinets, individually lit, display a serious figure and memorabilia collection, framed by a long timber desk and a lit timber portal at the door. It is part home office, part private gallery, and it is the clearest answer to what this whole home is about: a space made to hold the things, and the people, that matter to them.
