Arezzo

The idea came straight off the tower's curving facade. We let that line run all the way through the interior design, from the finishes to the furniture: cabinet doors, wall details, the dropped ceiling, bookshelves, light fittings, even the batten screens all pick up a curved, streamlined form. The lines cross and overlap, so the rooms feel layered and three-dimensional rather than the usual boxy, straight-line plan.

We worked the whole flat in different shades of blue and chose furniture in soft, rounded shapes to suit the theme. In the dining room a half-height cupboard appears to float, with recessed lighting underneath that lifts it off the wall, and a wavy backdrop behind it. Switch on the surrounding spots and that corner becomes the focal point of the home.

Out in the living area we took down one partition to open up a study, then set it apart with a raised marble floor so it reads as its own zone within the L-shaped space. That open-plan move lets the full-height windows do their work, pulling the view and the light deep into the flat. A rotating television stand sits between the study and the living and dining rooms, so it can be watched from either side and quietly doubles as a divider that gives the study its privacy.
