Cumine Court

The building is over half a century old, but the layout is roomy and open and the location is hard to beat, which is why the owner has stayed put for two decades. We were brought in to renovate, and to fix the one real weakness: not enough natural light. The brief for the interior design was a home that felt bright and upbeat, but still landed as quietly luxurious and natural.

We built that on a base of blue and white, then warmed it with champagne gold, marble textures, timber strips and European floral line work. Rounded corners come in where they help, taking the hard edges off the rooms and giving the whole flat a softer feel that reads brighter even where the light is thin.

The detail is where the flat earns its keep. A recessed storage bench tucks in beside the front door, the kitchen wall and base cabinets are worked for real capacity, and the children's bedroom gets its own clever touches, pretty and genuinely useful at any hour of the day. Nearly all the joinery was custom-made by our trusted partner factory, which is how the storage stays generous without crowding a fifty-year-old flat.
