Repulse Bay Road

Normally we strip a floor plan of anything that blocks it. Here we did the opposite. The owners wanted a home that could change shape with them, so we built a fluid layout out of different doors, movable walls, and mirrors, letting the space open right up or close down room by room depending on the moment.

By giving up the maid's room and its bathroom, we freed up enough space for a generous dressing room and walk-in closet for the couple. A single sliding door is all it takes to seal it off from the open living area for privacy, yet slide it back and the whole flat keeps an unbroken sea view. The window's unusual oval shape frames that view beautifully but made the television awkward to place, so we set it on a movable wall that swings up to ninety degrees, so it turns to suit wherever they are sitting.

The walls, doors, and joinery were all custom-made for the flat by our trusted partner factory, since a layout that moves only works when every piece is built to fit exactly. It is residential interior design for two people at the start of a life together: a Repulse Bay home that opens to the sea, then folds in around them when they want it close.
