Because he visits regularly and the family sometimes comes along, we kept the two bedrooms from the original layout but made the second room flexible in how it is furnished. We put in all the basics of a proper home, and since he needed little storage, that left more room than usual for a few interesting pieces. The brief was a simple, cosmopolitan feel, drawn from the hotels he stays in so often.

Clean lines, well-judged ergonomics, and a handful of accessories carried that idea. We chose colours for how welcoming they feel, so a flat used in short stays still reads as somewhere to settle into rather than just pass through. This is the kind of interior design that has to work the moment you walk in, because the owner is rarely here to fine-tune it.

His schedule was relentless, yet he wanted the project to run at a normal pace, so we made the process do the travelling for him. We met fewer than ten times from first concept through to completion, ran most of the conversation over email, and signed off nearly every finish and accessory through online photo albums we put together. The fitted joinery was made to measure by our trusted partner factory.
