The Great Hill
The Great Hill is an interior design project completed by Artwill Interior Design House in 2008, located in New Territories, a 1,830 sq. ft. unit handled by Regina Kwok and the design team across Interior Design & Build.
At The Great Hill in the New Territories, Artwill shaped a double-height living room around its mountain view, balancing a warm walnut floor against a quiet charcoal feature wall.
The living room is built around its glazing. A run of floor-to-ceiling windows and a full-height glass door open onto the balcony, pulling in the green ridgeline and the water beyond, with sheer bronze-toned curtains that soften the afternoon light without closing it off. We laid a rich walnut timber floor that warms the whole space, then let a deep charcoal textured wall, set in a subtle tile-like grid, anchor the seating side. A pale linen sectional and a soft beige rug keep everything calm, so the eye settles on the view rather than the furniture.
The joinery is where the room earns its character. A long white lacquer media console floats low along the wall, its glossy front and concealed black storage bays keeping the television wall clean and grounded. On the opposite side, a slim white shelf steps across the dark wall in a single crisp line, lifting a few ceramics and a framed piece, while a recessed niche glows from a hidden warm strip. We detailed that niche closely: layered horizontal bands lit from within, a quiet piece of interior design that reads as sculpture by night.
Overhead, a stepped cove ceiling lifts the volume higher still and carries a band of warm LED light around the perimeter, paired with directional spots that wash the feature wall and pick out the dining corner with its glass table and dark moulded chairs. The result is a measured, light-filled home that feels generous and unhurried at any hour. If you are planning a home of your own at The Great Hill or elsewhere in Hong Kong, we would love to hear about your space; reach out to Regina Kwok and the Artwill team to start the conversation.
