The Leighton Hill

The Leighton Hill is an interior design project completed by Artwill Interior Design House in 2016, located in Hong Kong Island, a 1,900 sq. ft. unit handled by Regina Kwok and the design team across Interior Design & Build.

A 1,900-square-foot home at The Leighton Hill in Happy Valley on Hong Kong Island, redesigned for a couple whose children had left for studies abroad.

With the children overseas, the brief was about the two of them again. They wanted something bright and elegant, a home that felt calm and put-together rather than busy. So we held to one consistent palette and let a range of natural materials carry the interest. The husband has a real feel for material, so our interior design ran on marble, leather, wood, and a few different metals, each used where it would catch the light and pull a feature forward.

His wife collects crystal, and a good deal of it, so storage and display were not an afterthought. We built plenty of cabinets, display cases, and open racks into the living room to give the collection room to breathe, and turned part of the bedroom over to a proper walk-in closet. The point was that everything had a place, and the good pieces could be seen rather than packed away.

The one indulgence sits in the bathroom. The original rectangular room was squared off so a diamond-shaped tub could tuck into the corner, and we added a television and an audio system beside it. After a long day, a soak with something playing is the small luxury this home is built around.
