Royal Peninsular

The brief was a family one: room for everyone, and the ease of a settled retirement, while the sons keep space of their own. The entry used to be dark and tight, so we turned the kitchen into a semi-open space to widen the passage, then changed the direction of the staircase and wrapped it in clear glass to open up the view and lift the whole arrival.

Where there were four bedrooms, we built three ensuites instead, the master suite on the lower floor and the sons' rooms above, so the generations live close but not on top of one another. The result is the kind of layout you can grow old in comfortably, with privacy built into the plan rather than added on.

Each member of the family had their own taste, and the interior design was as much about tying those tastes together. Modern contemporary runs through the living room and master bedroom; the elder son and his girlfriend get a more luxurious room; the younger, teenage brother a pared-back, minimal one. We held it all together with a shared material language of marble, metal, leather, and wood, custom-made by our trusted partner factory, so distinct rooms still read as one harmonious home.
