The Grandeur

We drew this interior design from one reference: the luxurious but comfortable feel of a good hotel suite. The flat glows. Back-lit shelves and ceilings and a generous run of spotlights catch the reflective surfaces set around the edges of the walls and doors, and the whole room reads grand because of it. Marble runs throughout, from the dining tabletop to the pantry partition wall, and an eclectic mix of vases, art, and photographs from different periods and styles keeps the space lively, while the geometry of the cushions and the chandelier layers in detail and richness.

All that light and shine carried one risk: a palette that could end up looking washed out, like a faded photograph. So we kept the base neutral and versatile, then struck it with strong splashes of royal purple for a casual, easy elegance that suits entertaining. In the study, a large rug with an oversized chrysanthemum lifts the room boldly against the beige and the reflective surfaces.

The young daughter's room breaks from the hotel theme on purpose. Here the brief was cosiness and warmth instead of polish, so we worked in a soft palette and chose movable furniture, leaving her the room to bring her own taste into the space as she grows.
